Nutrition and Fitness for Your Teen

Childhood obesity is at an all-time high. Learn about our FitKidz fitness and nutrition program for children, ages 9-13.

FitKidz is a six-week fitness and nutrition program developed specifically for children ages 9-13 (and parents). It’s “kid-friendly” and includes a variety of fun and interesting topics such as:

  • Exploring the Vegetable Jungle
  • Navigating the Restaurant Maze
  • Quench Your Thirst
  • Power-Packed Fruits
  • My Pyramid Power
  • Food Label Scavenger Hunt
  • Portion Distortion

Children and families also learn practical tips for leading a healthy and active lifestyle. FitKidz goals include:

  • Learning the importance of physicial fitness
  • Understanding how to make smart food choices
  • Knowing nutritious foods + physical activity = healthy bodies
  • Boosting self-esteem, body image and confidence
  • Making friends and having fun

The program includes two, one-hour group sessions each week, led by an exercise specialist and registered dietitian. The dietitian will explore practical tips to make healthy food choices, and the exercise specialist will teach fun physical activities that can be adapted to accommodate any fitness level. These include kickboxing, Pilates and yoga.

Registration fee for one child and one parent:

General public: $89
Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network employees: $81

Scholarships and discounts are available at some participating community centers. Each participant needs comfortable attire, sneakers and a water bottle. Registration is limited.
